Manó Mai worked and lived in this house from 1894 until his death in 1917. Every year approximately 3 to 4 thousand photographs were taken in the studio, amounting up to nearly 60 thousand images during Mai’s 23 years of operation. Although only a fraction of these photographs has survived, it is still considered an outstanding oeuvre. We have now selected 300 photos to put on view for the public, featuring, amongst others, men from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, who, besides the fact that any one of them could have been our grandfather or great-grandfather, now reveal their messages to us as we look at their differences, their clothing, and their poses.
